Not much to say*

Right now, I don’t have much to say.

I’m almost half way through an insanely busy week. And I haven’t caught up on my sleep from traveling this past week. And it snowed yesterday (mid-April?) And it’s pouring today. All of these things make me very blah and very tired this week.

Come on Spring. We desperately miss you. Hurry, please.

Upside: The boyfriend will be in town this weekend. The best thing to look forward to. :)

Hope everyone’s week goes fast. (Okay, I really hope mine does.)

It’s easy as 1-2-3*

Hey everyone!

Surprise! I’m posting before I leave for NYC in the morning (3:30 in the morning might I add…ew!)

I’ve seen many-a bloggers do this fun little A-B-C exercise and, knowing my love of all things survey and list-like, I thought it might be a fun post. Feel free to comment some of your A-B-C’s or do a whole post of your own! I’d love to hear other takes on it. :)

Here you go lovelies!

A. Age: 22 (But really, can’t I just say 23? My birthday is in a month!)

B. Bed size: Full. And I will stand by this statement in saying that it is the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on. Mmmm. Favorite place. :)

C. Chore you hate: Dishes. Ugh. Ew. Dishes.

D. Dogs: I live vicariously through my parents who have the sweetest Golden Retriever, Bella. And more often I love vicariously through my boyfriend’s Boxer, Stella. I love those pups. And if you know me, you know how much I’m dying to get a dog.

E. Essential start to your day: Reading through my Google Reader. I also set my alarm a half hour to an hour before I really need to get up because I can’t just jump out of bed and go (unless I absolutely have to).

F. Favorite color: Bright Spring Colors or Spring pastels (as long as it doesn’t look like an easter egg). Other than that, I’m a lover of black/red.

G. Gold or silver: Silver, hands down. Not a fan of gold.

H. Height: 5’10

I. Instruments you play: HA! I own an acoustic guitar–that I can’t play. But realllllly want to learn! (Tips anyone?) I can sing though–does that count?

J. Job title: Currently still job searching–Always looking for writing opportunities though! (Also I’d love to turn this blog into a “job.”

K. Kids: At some point in my life. Not for a long, long time though. But I love kids. My brothers can get on that asap though! ;)

L. Live: In a studio apartment. In the East Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.

M. Mom’s name: Laura. (I have the best mom ever.)

N. Nicknames: Peanut, K, Kristy, Monkay …

O. Overnight hospital stays: Many. Oye. I’ve had four knee surgeries. Although, I believe only one of them I stayed overnight in the hospital. The rest were outpatient. I developed a blood clot after a knee surgery and spent two weeks in the hospital because it traveled up to my lungs. I’ve had various stays for various illnesses over the past 5 years or so too. I have to say my luck has changed medically though. Knock on wood, I haven’t been sick in a very long time! :)

P. Pet peeve: Grammar/Word choice. I can’t stand that. Misspelled words too. Ugh! I also can’t stand cheaters and liars. There are always every day annoyances too, but I can’t think of them off the top of my head.

Q. Quote from a movie: I seriously can’t pick one. That’s like asking me to pick my favorite song. One thing I will say is that I’m kind of obsessed with quotes. I’m always saving them and writing them down.

R. Right or left-handed: Right

S. Siblings: Two brothers who are twins. 7 years older than me.

T. Time you wake up: It depends on what I have to do that day honestly. Usually around 8. But I typically can’t sleep in past 9 or 10 am on the weekends.

U. Underwear: Thongs. Everyday. Anything else I just find really uncomfortable.

V. Vegetables you dislike: Raw tomatoes, Mushrooms, and Raw onions are the biggest ones. Other ones I may not completely like, I’ll still eat no problem.

W. What makes you run late: Nothing. I am notoriously early. Too early most of the time. I get anxious when I know I’m going to be there less than 5-10 minutes early. I know, it’s crazy and makes no sense. :)

X. X-Rays you’ve had: Oye! Sooooo many. Chest x-rays, Knee x-rays, wrist, head, neck, arms. MRI’s on knees, head, spine, chest. And a few other ones too.

Y. Yummy food you make: Hmmm… I’m a great baker. So cookies, cupcakes, cakes, brownies, etc. I’m really good at cheesy risotto. Pancakes. Lots of things.

Z. Zoo–favorite animal: Oh man. I love going to the zoo. Probably Giraffes, Monkeys, Polar Bears, Elephants….Can I just like them all?!?! :D

Fun! Hope you all enjoy!

Have a great weekend! See you on the flip side.

Spring Sprung*

Happy Hump Day everyone!

I’m jetting off to NYC this weekend for my future sister-in-law’s bridal shower, some time with my brother, and a meet-up with a very, very good Michigander friend of mine who is thriving in the Big Apple’s fashion world now. :)  (Check out her blog–Narcoleptic in the City–you will die laughing and just love her as much as I do!)

I’ve been busy this week working, packing, organizing, and planning for the trip and the upcoming wedding next month.

^^Obsessed with To-Do lists–and can’t go anywhere without my trusty Planner. :)

In the throes of packing and doing a quick little bit of shopping, I’ve realized how happy this time of year makes me. You can really tell how much my mood changes and how upbeat I get when the weather gets warmer. And much to the appreciation of my closet–I actually start wearing the majority of my clothes again. I hibernate in the winter with leggings, baggy sweaters, boots, wool socks, and the like. I just can’t help it. I hate being cold–and therefore, I always want to be comfy and warm if I have to venture outside.

So! Here comes the sun (do do do do) and Here come all of my cute clothes! I made a couple new purchases in the past month or so. They have mostly been pieces to add and accessorize with what I already have. But 2 or 3 new outfits have been added.

I’ve never been a hat person–But I fell in love with this fedora from Forever 21 ($5–hello!)

^^It’s actually from Forever 21′s Men’s Collection–but who cares. :)

Another piece I want to add this spring/summer is actually free and DIY. If you know me, you know I haven’t missed an issue of Cosmo in probably 5 years or more. Crazy. But in the most recent issue–May–there was an article on must-do’s for summer. One of the little sections of the article was about cut-offs. I’m way past the tight-booty-short phase and have been looking for more flattering and age appropriate ideas this year. I’m not a huge fan of shorts in general–I’d much rather wear a skirt or dress in the summer. But you always need a couple of shorts. So this idea is to actually take a baggier pair of jeans and cut them 7 inches from the inseam (in order to cuff once or twice). Awesome!

^^It always helps to have air-brushed legs too–haha. :)

So there you go! Just a few little spring has sprung ideas!

I’ll try to blog in the next few days–but I’m guessing it will be more than likely after I get back from NYC. Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Funny where the truth lies*

(Just wanted to post the lyrics to this song– I know, I know–the song is sub-par in itself. But as I was running on the treadmill today, it came up on my iPod and I actually listened to the lyrics. It’s funny–but they really hold truth to the state of the world right now. Ironic.)

“Where Is The Love?”

What’s wrong with the world, mama
People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that’ll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin’
In the USA, the big CIA fightin’
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you’re bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that’s exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y’all, y’all

People killin’, people dyin’
Children hurt and you hear them cryin’
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain’t the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don’t belong
Nations droppin’ bombs
Chemical gasses fillin’ lungs of little ones
With ongoin’ sufferin’ as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin’ really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin’ wrong
In this world that we livin’ in people keep on givin’
in
Makin’ wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin’ each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin’ on but the reason’s undercover
The truth is kept secret, it’s swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where’s the love, y’all, come on (I don’t know)
Where’s the truth, y’all, come on (I don’t know)
Where’s the love, y’all

People killin’, people dyin’
Children hurt and you hear them cryin’
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love, the love, the love?

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I’m gettin’ older, y’all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin’
Selfishness got us followin’ our wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo’, whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead of spreading love we’re spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feelin’ under
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feelin’ down
There’s no wonder why sometimes I’m feelin’ under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found
Now ask yourself

Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love?

Sing wit me y’all:
One world, one world (We only got)
One world, one world (That’s all we got)
One world, one world
And something’s wrong wit it (Yeah)
Something’s wrong wit it (Yeah)
Something’s wrong wit the wo-wo-world, yeah
We only got
(One world, one world)
That’s all we got
(One world, one world)

New directions*

Hello all!
Hope this Monday went as fast for you as it did for me.

I’m just stopping in quick here before I head to bed to drop some news about this lil’ bloggy blog.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the direction I want this blog to have in the long term. I’ve always wanted to focus it on one topic or hobby, but I’ll be honest–I really don’t think I could do that.
Truthfully I just don’t know if I’m creative enough or if I even know enough about one lone topic to dedicate my entire blog about it.
But! I know a decent amount about a whole slew of different topics. And I’d much rather focus the blog that way. It allows for variety and an easier upkeep for me. This blog will be categorized as a “lifestyle” blog and will just be day-to-day happenings.
I think that’s more interesting than beating a dead horse about one specific thing. For you guys and for me.

So stay tuned!
I’m headed to New York this weekend for a bridal shower and super excited about it! Come onnnnn Friday! :)

Define: Priorities*

Hey guys! :)

Hope you all have had a great weekend as it winds down here.

I just want to state one thing here today.

I am in no way perfect. And I get self-absorbed and superficial just like the rest of us. But I am just sickened at the news and media lately. I’ve stated before about how I think an abnormal amount of tragic events have been happening to our world lately. It seems like a new catastrophe jumps up every few days or so now.

But what makes me sick is the difference between what we are reading in the news–and what we aren’t. What our government is spending its money and attention on–and what they aren’t.

I think a great example is this whole Charlie Sheen nonsense. I read an article this morning about how he performed his opening show in Detroit last night (and apparently another one in Chicago tonight) and he was boo-ed off the stage. People started to leave 15 minutes into the show and Charlie didn’t return to the stage after one of the breaks. Now people are demanding refunds of their tickets, etc.

If this were just a normal show gone down the tube–okay, no big deal. But what bothers me are the events that have led up to this and the likely articles that are still to follow. All this nonsense about Charlie Sheen in the media–young people are praising him and jokingly wanting to be like him. (He’s on the verge of a psychotic break fueled by drugs, alcohol, and attention if you ask me). Because we’d be “winning” right?

Well, let’s look at it this way:

-JAPAN: Earthquake–Tsunami–More Earthquakes–Nuclear Disaster–Unprecedented lives lost–Barely any governmental attention…..  WINNING right?

-LIBYA: Unrest and Uproar–Protests–Rebel Groups–U.S. Attacks–Counter-attacks–Even more uncountable lives lost…. WINNING again right?

-New Zealand, Lost of educational finances, Unemployment rate rising still, North Africa in general, Earthquakes elsewhere, Ivory Coast massacres, Continuous consequence over the Oil Spill,   and way more that I haven’t mentioned here.

Let me tell you people. We, as a country and as an international community, are in no way, shape, or form “winning.”

Sorry Charlie Sheen.

What I mean by all of this is just to pay attention to what matters. Do what you can to help–financially, verbally, physically–whatever you can. Reassess your priorities. Remember how damn lucky we are. And pay attention to what’s happening in our global community. It takes individuals with the means and the desire to counter-act these atrocities.

It’s not enough to say–Oh don’t worry, someone will help them. But what if everyone had that mindset? Then no one would be helping at all. Assume you are the only one.

I’m not asking everyone to be a humanitarian. Or to drop all material things. Or to not pay attention to Hollywood or any other form of entertainment. Getting rid of all of those things is not the answer either. We’re human.

But what we can do is care. What we can do is take the time to at least read the news. The international news. What we can do is at least not be so ignorant.

At the very least–make sure you can say what’s going on in the world around us.

And not just the last crazy quote Charlie Sheen mouthed off about tiger blood, warlocks, and “winning.” Because really–that guy’s not even winning. And he’s about to crash and burn, I’m sure.

Just a little food for thought to start out your week. :)

Shame!*

Seriously guys, I’m sorry.

I think it’s been 3 weeks since I blogged anything. That’s awful! And I’m so sorry.

I’ve been at a crossroads with so many major aspects of my life. Job searching. Where I will live 6 months from now. I’m trying very hard to live in the moment and just let everything fall as it may. That notion is hard and easy at the same time. I do love living my life that way and do live that way in some aspects. But on the other hand, I’ve become really frustrated with the job part of my life and the financial part. So that makes it hard to forget about 6 months from now and live in today.

Anyway. It’s no excuse. I should be blogging anyway!

I’m also in the process of revamping, re-styling, and reorganizing this blog. I’ve gotten some tips from other bloggers as to what programs to use, topics to use, etc. And I’m trying to implement those ideas slowly here. That is another reason I haven’t been writing.

More importantly, I just haven’t been feeling the inspiration for it lately.

I’m going to try harder to just blog anyway, even if it isn’t something super substantial. Even if it’s just what I did that day. Something mundane. I definitely need to do it anyway!

So I’m trying! And I’m still here. Brainstorming, etc.

I’ve got some absolutely great weekends coming up in the next few months and I couldn’t be more excited.

I just want to say thank you to my family and to the boyfriend for being who they are. For always supporting me. For humoring my frustration and putting up with my venting about it non-stop. I love you guys. I love you so much. Thank you.
